The Trip

The feeling doesn’t go away, but the intensity ebbs and flows. I’d like to plan a cross-country trip via bike in the next few years. Life may or may not get in the way. If it does, I’ll find another time to do it. Right now my plan takes me across about 4300 miles, close to 3500 of which I have never traveled before.

It will take about 3 months. Some will be alone. Some will be with friends. Some will be with strangers. My goals? To learn things – about me, other people, the country.

I don’t know what it will be like. Hopefully as pieces fall into place I can update this page.

It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle. ~ Ernest Hemingway

  1. You will have a brilliant time! Did the same thing, but across Canada – loved it!!! Still one of my most proud achievements! Did it solo, rode with people I met along the way. Had the chance to share campsites at times which was great. Found that people would come up to me when I was alone – curious about my trip! It will be amazing – so excited for you!

    • Thanks! Looking forward to completing the trip, but no timeline just yet. We’ll see how things play out in the next 1-2 years – but believe me, I’ll be planning the whole time!
